MEMBERS of the Ellesmere branch of the Save the Children charity have pulled out all the stops to provide emergency aid for victims of the war in Ukraine.
Since the Russian invasion began, the branch has donated two thousand pounds directly to the charity’s Ukraine appeal
The branch committee has also provided dozens of food, medical and hygiene parcels for overland delivery to eastern Europe.
The supplies formed part of a consignment organised by Ellesmere couple Adam and Hanna Mroz who have sent nine vanloads to a depot in Telford for onward shipment to Poland-Ukraine border.
Mr Mroz’s employer, the Ellesmere-based TG group, loaned him a van to transport the parcels.
Others were delivered by retired pilot Paul Latham from English Frankton who borrowed a van from Whitchurch hauliers Grocontinental to take humanitarian aid via Slovakia.
A spokeswoman for the Ellesmere Save the Children Committee said they were delighted by the support they had received.
She added: “We’ve had a very generous response to this worthy appeal and we would like to thank everyone for their donations and parcels, including Ellesmere Ladies Tangent, St Mary’s Parish Church, Ellesmere Probus and Rotary clubs, Cockshutt WI and Oswestry Golf Club."
