MALPAS will be hosting several events in June to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

These include beacon lighting on Castle Hill at 9.45pm on Thursday, June 2 and a thanksgiving service at St Oswald's Church, Church Street on Friday, June 3.

Photographs and cuttings will be displayed in the Malpas Community Church.

Resident Liane Smith said: "To get a sense of the remarkable timeframe of the Queen’s 70 years of service as monarch, drop in at the Malpas Community Church each afternoon to see a rolling display of newspaper cuttings from 1952.

"There is also a display of old photographs of the area and your opportunity to bring any memorabilia to the "coronation roadshow."

Meanwhile, Malpas Flower Club will be putting on a flower display as decorations and people will be able to enjoy the scarecrow through the town.

On Saturday, June 4, celebrations will start at midday and will include fireworks at 10pm.

Ms Smith added: "On Saturday, June 4, festivities start at midday with a parade along High Street followed by a fair and various event on the Recreation Ground including 1950s fashion parade, display of vintage vehicles, tug of war and a dog show.

"The evening is rounded off with a band and cash bar plus fireworks at 10pm."

The following day, there will be even more events including a fun run and people are being encouraged to take part.

Ms Smith said: "On Sunday, we have a 5km fun run in the morning followed by sessions of "wizard chess" while everyone enjoys their picnics, a treasure hunt and platinum tree dedication."

"There is room for everyone and plenty of stalls, raffles, souvenir programme draw and great prizes.

"Do not watch it all on telly, come and be a part of the fun."
