A CHOIR, who went viral online and has fans including Boris Johnson and Piers Morgan, will be performing in Whitchurch in aid of cancer charities

Cor Bach had nearly five million hits on social media and will be performing in St Alkmund's Church, Whitchurch on Saturday, May 7.

The choir will be supported by two local musicians at a "Sing Out for Cancer" in support of the Whitchurch Rotary Club's prostate cancer testing and the Inner Wheel's breast cancer initiatives.

The Rotary Club called the initiatives priorities.

Club president, Dave Simcock said: "These are two important health initiatives that both Rotary and Inner Wheel consider as priorities.

"Our joint community projects have, over the past few years, saved several lives and we hope the proceeds of this concert will help us to carry on the work."

Cor Bach is an acapella group with nine members who have sung with the likes of Alfie Boe and Joan Sutherland and the group won Best UK Choir at the 2019 Cornwall International Festival of Male Voices.

A spokesman said: "The singers have been Internet superstars since an impromptu video of them, singing acapella in a pub after choir practice, went viral on social media and attracted likes from fans including Piers Morgan and Boris Johnson.

"Since then they have posted a series of videos – featuring choral treatments as varied as ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ and ‘What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor’ for nearly 300 ‘You Tube’ subscribers alone.

"Cathedral concerts and local BBC radio performances have added to their fan base with a catalogue of music including traditional classics as well as Electric Light Orchestra, Queen and Billy Joel compositions."

"Sing Out for Cancer" will be at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 each and are on sale at Gallery Flowers in the High Street, Card Market in Green End.
