THE MP for North Shropshire has called for Boris Johnson to resign after he and the Chancellor Rishi Sunak were both fined for breaching Covid-19 regulations by attending parties.

The gatherings were held in December 2020, while people across the country faced strict restrictions.

Helen Morgan criticised the PM for breaking the laws he made.

She said: "The Prime Minister has broken laws that restricted the lives of every single person in this country.

"Laws that he made. Laws that he did not apply to himself.

"A man of integrity would resign.

"If he will not, Parliament should be recalled for a vote of no-confidence in the Prime Minister."

More than 50 fines have been handed out by the Metropolitan Police for parties held at No 10 and Whitehall.

A spokesman for No 10 confirmed Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak received notifications.

He added: "The Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer have today received notification that the Metropolitan Police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices.

"We have no further details, but we will update you again when we do."

The Met confirmed at least 30 more fixed penalty notices will be issued by the ACRO Criminal Records office.

This is up from the 20 referrals for fixed penalty notices (FPM) the force said had been made at the end of March.

Scotland Yard said it was possible more fines would come.
