A MAN had to be cut free from a car and receive specialist trauma care at the scene following a crash near Whitchurch on Tuesday (March 29) evening.

The incident which also involved a lorry happened on the A41 near the junction with the B5065 at Sandford shortly after 10pm.

The man was later taken to the major trauma centre in Stoke.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it sent one ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor to the scene.

A spokesman said: "We arrived at the scene to find the car driver, a man, seriously injured and trapped inside his car.

"Crews worked closely with colleagues from the fire service to free the man, before he received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

"The lorry driver was assessed and discharged at the scene."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) also attended the incident and sent four fire engines, including a rescue tender from Market Drayton, Prees, Whitchurch and Wellington.

West Mercia Police also attended the scene.
