AN MP has welcomed the opportunity for residents in Farndon to upgrade their broadband, as part of the government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

Edward Timpson, who represents the Conservatives for the Cheshire constituency, welcomed the news this week.

The broadband scheme will allow 1,900 residents in Farndon and Tattenhall to work from home, download films in seconds, and connect multiple devices without compromising connection speed.

However, launch of this phase of the project for Farndon is dependent on resident sign-ups, with 70 per cent of residents needed for work to begin.

Mr Timpson said: “I'm pleased to see the progress we're making, with 56.2 per cent of Eddisbury residents now having access to gigabit-capable connection – but there is still more to be done.

“Thanks to the entrepreneurship of Kloud9 – supported by Government funding – we are seeing swift improvements to connectivity in rural Cheshire.

“I look forward to meeting with the Kloud9 team soon to discuss how widely this project will benefit my constituents in Eddisbury.”

Residents will be given vouchers worth between £1,500 to £3,500 to fund the project, led by the Warrington-based technology company.

The project will come at no additional cost to residents, provided that enough residents pledge their Broadband Voucher.
