A NURSERY near Whitchurch is giving a boost to a campaign to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Prees Heath Nursery is one of two sites which is providing trees for the Queen's Green Canopy campaign in Shropshire.

The project is asking people up and down the country to plant a tree in recognition of the occasion.

A spokesperson said: "The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a national project that the Shropshire Lieutenancy, together with Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council, are supporting locally.

"It has been rolled out across Shropshire and the rest of the UK during the planting season from October 2021 to December 2022.

"This will be a longlasting and valuable way to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

"The Lieutenancy and the councils are keen to help ensure that as many trees as possible are planted for the canopy in Shropshire.

"This initiative will promote the importance of trees for the environment in a sustainable and relevant way and, it is hoped, thousands of trees will be planted across the county as a lasting legacy. "
