WHITCHURCH Alport were brought crashing back to earth with a 2-0 defeat at AFC Wulfrunians in the Midlands Premier League.

The Reds went into the game on a high after making the headlines with a 2-1 win over Congleton Town to progress in the FA Vase and just a few days after beating Bridgnorth Town in the TJ Vickers Cup

However Alport trailed early on with Tom Ray slotting home despite the Shropshire side’s protests and appeals for offside.

Alport saw penalty appeals rejected after Alex Hughes went down in the area and Wulfrunians made the most of their reprieve as Dominic Dell doubled the home side’s lead.

Alport struggled throughout the first-half with a free-kick from Hughes the closest they came to threatening the hosts.

Alport were much improved after the break with Joe Minshall heading wide from Ivan Urventev’s corner while Dan Skelton fired over before Dylan Bath saw an effort adjudged offside as the Reds went home empty handed.

Meanwhile Prees United suffered a miserable weekend with a 5-1 defeat at home to Ludlow Town in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League.

Sam Flory’s strike proved scant consolation as Dale Hodge, Jack Mear, Kieran Dovey, Sean Evans and Tom Everall goals won the day for the visitors.

Wem Town’s struggles also continued with a 2-1 defeat at Dawley Town.

Ben Jones and Jack Hawse goals saw the home side lead before Harry Astley netted a reply in vain.
