MORDA United Football Club are leading calls for a community 3G football pitch facility to be installed in Oswestry.

The Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League club insist such a facility would be a massive boost to border football clubs and called on Oswestry Town Council and Shropshire Council to support plans.

Chairman Matty Williams said: “We think a community 3G pitch, either in Morda or elsewhere in Oswestry, would be a great asset to the area and would be well used by senior and junior clubs on either side of the border.

“The area does not have much 3G provision and it needs more.”

Mr Williams said clubs struggled to access Park Hall, home of TNS Football Club.

“At the end of the day Park Hall is home to TNS so obviously is well used by its academies which means clubs like ourselves are in need of a proper community facility.

“Any such facility would be well used and certainly boost clubs in the Oswestry and border area.”

Meanwhile the club is looking to the future with Mr Williams confirming their main short-term aim was getting the long closed stand at Weston Pools Park open once again.

“We are at step six in the English pyramid at the moment but promotion to the higher leagues, the Midlands League or North West Counties, is dependent on us improving facilities.

“We need to improved our changing facilities, install floodlights and of course ensure we have covered seating.

“The club will be pushing forward with its aims in the next few years and we certainly aim to be improving on and off the pitch.

“A 3G pitch would certainly help Morda United and all other clubs in the area.”
