CHESTER FC have paid tribute to a much-loved and long-serving club volunteer, who has sadly passed away this week.

The club said it was "deeply saddened" to hear of the news that Evelyn Clegg, a lifelong supporter of the Blues, had passed away on Monday, January 17, at the age of 93, following a short illness.

A club statement said: "On behalf of everyone at the Club, we extend our sincere condolences to Evelyn’s son Robbie, family and friends.

"Ev, as she was affectionately known, will be greatly missed not only by Chester FC family, but by the match officials, visiting directors and guests who enjoyed the wonderful hospitality Evelyn and her close friend Pam Hipkiss had provided in the board room since the Deva Stadium opened almost 30 years ago.

"Evelyn and Robbie have been part of the fabric of our Club for many years and matchdays will not be the same without her warm smile, kindness and terrific sense of humour."
