POLICE officers around Whitchurch say that reporting suspicious activity and events to them is the best way to help reduce crime in the area.

West Mercia Police officers increased patrols around Prees this week after reports of people trying doors in back gardens and attempted break-ins.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Hannah Lister, from Whitchurch Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) says that when incidents are reported direct to the police, they are able to form a clearer picture of where to best use their resources.

She said: "Late night patrols are being conducted in and around Prees and in the coming nights after Whitchurch SNT became aware of the recent social media posts surrounding attempted break in's and people being seen in gardens trying doors.

"We urge every single one of you who have experienced any of this to please report this to us, either online or 999 if its an ongoing incident happening now, so we can deploy officers to investigate.

"Each report helps us create a pattern of activity and could be the missing piece of a puzzle.

"Once reported one of the team will be in contact with you to discuss."

PCSO Lister added that advice is available.

She said: "Want some home security advice and gadgets?

"Come along to our mobile police station visit Saturday, January 29 from 7pm outside Prees fire station where we will be on hand to discuss anything you wish."
