OSWESTRY opened 2022 with an emphatic home win over Trentham in Midlands League North Three.
The unbeaten hosts justified their festive training with a comfortable win against a side which had pushed them in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
Oswestry dominated nearly all the scrums with the forwards being able to push the big men of Trentham back while captain Gaz Ellis won nearly all the line outs from Andrew Smith.
The first 25 minutes saw Oswestry camped in the opposition’s half with Trentham defending for their lives.

Eventually a run started by prop Connor Blair fed Tom Hill who was able to feed the killer pass to Luke Beckett who was too fast for Trentham and touched down for the opening try which Iwan Ellis converted.
From the restart Trentham got into the Oswestry half but were soon retreating with Iwan Ellis and Tom Hill relieving the pressure with accurate kicks.
Trentham held out until Nick Clay was able to get the ball over the line for his first try of the season.

From the start of the second-half Oswestry were on their game once again and and almost immediately Beckett was able to score his second try of the game.
Oswestry were now dominant with Scott Smith and Luke Hassall gaining ground when they had the ball.
Oswestry were soon on the attack again and Beckett was able to speed through their defence to score his hat trick of tries.
Brad Hughes converted to extend Oswestry’s lead to 24 points and secure a bonus point.

Beckett was not done yet and was released by Rory Kershaw to cross for his fourth try of the game and 11th of the season with Hughes completing the scoring with the conversion.
Oswestry now top the table with 49 points and have established a sis points lead over Barton who both have played 11 games.
Oswestry host Warley on Saturday and go into the game as overwhelming favourites with the visitors bottom of the table.
Meanwhile Oswestry IIs also have home advantage for the derby visit of Whitchurch IIs in the NOWIRUL The Right Broker Division Three South.
