Nearly £500 has been raised for charity at this year’s Ellesmere Fun Run.

In total, 54 entrants were involved in person and virtually, with the event taking place on Sunday, January 2.

It was organised by Debbie Watson, who lives in Ellesmere with her husband and daughter.

She is involved with a running group called Girls on the Run (GOTR) and occasionally runs with Ellesmere runners on a Friday, and is raising £1,500 to run the London Marathon for The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) at Gobowen in October.

Debbie explained that she had personal reasons for wanting to raise money for RJAH.

She said: "I wanted to do a local charity. My dad did go there for some physio. He had Parkinson’s. So a while back he went there for a few weeks and they were brilliant with him.

“I haven’t done them before but I have done fundraising in the past for Parkinson’s UK."

Debbie’s long-term aim was to raise £1,500 for her to be able to take part in the London Marathon in October with the £482.76 raised through the fun run tipping her just over that amount. The rest was raised through Just Giving.

She now hopes to raise even more.

“I want to try and raise £3,000 if I can," she said. "The target was originally £1,500 which I’ve just gone over. So, I thought let’s try and double it and see how we get on.”
