FREE transport will be offered to those who need it to go and receive their Covid-19 booster jab, Shropshire Council has confirmed.

The free offer will be open to those who do not have their own forms of transport and are unable to arrange transport through friends or family.

By doing this the Council hopes to help every eligible person, in Shropshire, receive their booster jab by the end of the year.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care and public health, said: “In a large rural county like Shropshire it can be a struggle for some people without transport to get to a vaccination or booster jab appointment.

“This shouldn’t become a reason for people in Shropshire not getting their jab.

"It’s vital we do everything we can to help people to get to and from their booked appointment.”

The transport will take people to their appointment and then straight home once they have had their jab.

To use this service, people have been told to give 48 hours’ notice to allow time for the transport to be arranged and have a pre-booked vaccination or booster appointment.

To arrange this, residents have been asked to contact the council’s Covid-19 Helpline on 0345 678 9028 (option 0).

Lines will be open Monday to Friday although closed over Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The service will be reviewed in January.
