AN APPLICATION to turn a barn used for domestic storage into a holiday let at a property near Ellesmere has been withdrawn by developers.

The plans, for Gravel; Hole Farm, in Criftins, were originally submitted to Shropshire Council in October this year but confirmation of the withdrawal came on Tuesday, December 14.

A design and access statement issued by planners on behalf of the applicant Peter Robinson, said that a pre-application decision was sought to advise on what form the barn conversion would take.

The statement said: "The owners requested pre-application advice which was given in September 2020, and this Design and Access Statement takes account of the advice.

"At the time of requesting advice, the owners had not decided whether the barn would be used as a residential annexe for the use of a relative, a holiday let, or open market housing, and the advice given was based on assessment for all three planning matters.

"The owners have since decided to apply for permission to convert the barn to a holiday let, renaming it “Gravel Hole Byre”."

The statement goes on to explain why the plans were submitted.

It said: "“At Gravel Hole Byre we hope to create an amazing space simply to provide a holiday let for tourists to enjoy, with its distinct character, peaceful and tranquil surroundings, as well as a space for a small group to linger and relax.

"There are two bedrooms, two doubles with a living room for further sleeping accommodation. Stainless steel and wood will be on show, by way of the original milking parlour and as the name suggests we hope to create a functional and interesting place to stay."

No reason was given for the application's withdrawal.

Menage plans withdrawn

AN APPLICATION for a covered menage at a high-profile Ellesmere estate has been withdrawn from Shropshire Council.

The plans were originally submitted to the council by Mr and Mrs Kynaston-Mainwaring owners of the Hardwick Hall Estate, off the A495, for the building of a covered menage –– for private use – measuring 61 by 21 metres, with an attached store.

A menage is an area for horses cane be trained in a riding school.

However, Shropshire Council has confirmed the application has been withdrawn.
