WORK to extend a veterinary surgery in Ellesmere took a hit at the weekend, after a car ploughed into the nearly-completed building work.

The incident, which involved a white Fiat 500, happened at Blakemere Veterinary Centre in Talbot Street at some point on Sunday morning, and saw much of the newly completed brickwork destroyed, along with some scaffolding.

A spokesman for the surgery said no one was hurt in the crash, but expressed frustration at the building setback.

A post on social media said: "As many of our clients might already have seen, a car crashed into our new extension early on Sunday morning.

"Miraculously no one was injured, but there is considerable structural damage to the extension and re-building of large sections of the front wall will be required.

"The building work was progressing well and we were hoping to start the internal alterations soon.

"Sadly the accident will now slow the work further and we apologise to all our clients for the ongoing disruption and inconvenience caused."
