Ellesmere Model Railway Club has called on new members to join and help save the club.

The club meets on Tuesdays at Cockshutt Millennium Hall and from January will be open from 10am to 9pm.

And with various projects in the pipeline, new people are being invited to get the club back on track post-Covid lockdowns.

Anthony Cope, from the club, says there is something for everyone at the club.

He said: "We are a group of enthusiasts who enjoy creating realistic working models of many aspects of railways, some based on real places, some imaginary – but all with attention to detail to produce miniature worlds for folks to enjoy.

"These come in all sizes – some sit happily on a table, others need much more space.

"There are two big projects getting under way again.

"Ellesmere is going to be a model of the station as it was in the early 60s, just before Dr Beeching’s famous axe fell.

"We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Ellesmere for their financial support for this project which will be a contribution to a wider understanding of this element of the area’s history.

"Truro is a much bigger enterprise, 20-feet long and almost nine-feet deep!

"The plan is for this to be shown at exhibitions in due course, but there is a lot to do yet.

"We have a major exhibition at Ellesmere Town Hall in August 2022, and we also hope to show some of the smaller layouts at the Cambrian Railway Centre in the station at Oswestry before too long.

"We welcome all ages, skill levels and interests, too, and are always pleased to welcome visitors if you would like to drop in – we might even offer you a cuppa!

"So please drop in and help save this club."
