VOTERS in Whitchurch and surrounding areas will get the chance to quiz some of the North Shropshire by-election candidates at a special hustings event.

The meeting, happening just nine days before the December 16 vote, has been arranged to give people in Whitchurch the chance to talk about the election and to raise things that matter locally.

It will start at 7pm on Tuesday, December 7 at St John's Methodist Church, in St John's Street while the candidates set to attend have not yet-been-confirmed, but there will be opportunities for questions to be asked.

The meeting has been arranged by the Churches Together in Whitchurch group as a service to the community, as the voters prepare to go to the polls.

A group spokesperson said: “With a long list of candidates from which to choose it’s more important than ever that people make the most of this opportunity, and think carefully about where to put their cross on the ballot paper.

"This will be an opportunity to discuss issues of concern to people in the town, such as the state of the health service locally, ambulance and hospital waiting times, affordable housing, jobs and the economy, farming and the countryside, support for older people, among other issues."
