A MAN committed fraud and triggered a suspended conditional order for stealing from his local church.

Jonathan Clorley, of High Street in Wem, admitted the fraud charges at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, November 25.

But he also triggered a two-year conditional discharge order, imposed by the same court, after he stole a circular votive stand worth £457.63, as well as £43 cash, from St Peter's and St Paul's Parish Church in Wem.

Both offences took place on January 5, 2019 and he was convicted on February 9, that year.

Last week, the 40-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of committing fraud by using another person's bank or credit card with the aim of making a financial gain for himself between December 19 and 20, last year, meaning he was still within the two-year period.

He received two community orders to run concurrently for both charges which will see him put on an eight-week curfew to stay at home between 7pm and 7am, which began on Friday, November 26. He must also pay £107.25 compensation for the first fraud offence, and £27.49 for the second.

Clorley will also be subject to the same curfew for the two earlier offences, which will again run concurrently.
