Several roads around Whitchurch and Wem are set to be resurfaced in the coming months.
Shropshire Council has confirmed that starting in January, almost 50 stretches of road across the county will be closed as they undergo repair work and maintenance, including 18 in north Shropshire.
Already completed in November are roadworks on the urban Northwood to Ellesmere Road in Wem.
Set to start on January 10 are roadworks along Mile Bank Road, Whitchurch. These repairs will continue until January 21.
Also scheduled for January are repairs along the junction at Lion Lane to Penley, and Burlton Crossroads to English Frankton junction. Both beginning on January 19 and ending on January 23.
On January 24, Old Malpas Road (B5395) to Grindley Brook (A41 junction to county border) will occupied by roadworks until February 6, and continuing in Newtown, Whitchurch will undergo repairs from February 12 to February 20.
The annual resurfacing programme is put together based on regular inspections and annual surveys of the county’s roads, plus reports from residents, councillors, parish councils and community groups.
Andy Wilde, head of highways with Shropshire Council, said to ensure value for money, roads that are likely to need costly repairs in the future are prioritised.
He said: "We’re committed to improving our roads and making them safer for all road users. Our annual resurfacing programme is an important part of this. It will greatly improve nearly 150km of roads, and help to prevent potholes and other problems occurring in the future.
“I’m sure the work will be welcomed by people who use these stretches of road and I thank people for their patience and understanding while this important work is carried out.”
The work will be carried out by Shropshire Council and its partners Kier and WSP.
