WEM Town Council is planning to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by offering residents a free tree to plant in their garden.

The plan is part of the national “plant a tree for the Jubilee Scheme” which will be used to celebrate the milestone event with 70 garden trees available – one for each year of the Queen’s reign – to residents of Wem in the New Year.

Penny O’Hagan, Wem town clerk, believes the project is one for the residents to get behind to help celebrate the Queen.

She said: “This is an exciting project to mark the Jubilee as not only will the tree planting help individual households to mark the Jubilee, it will also encourage the planting of more trees across the town which will be beneficial for the environment.

"Trees will be offered on a first come first serve basis and will be ready for distribution in January to February, 2022.

"Anyone who is interested in finding out more or would like to put their name down for a tree is encouraged to contact Wem Town Council on 01939 232733 or email info@wem.gov.uk"
