WEM will get into the spirit of Christmas next month, with an evening of festive events planned.

On Friday, December 3, the festivities will begin with TV broadcaster Sybil Ruscoe and her sister Hazel turning on the Christmas lights at 5.45pm, before the parade along High Street.

There will also be free parking in the town from 2pm and competitions will be open for Best Dressed Window.

a spokesman for the event promised a 'fun-packed' evening.

They said: "We look forward to another fun packed evening with the beautiful camels bringing in the three kings.

"There will be plenty of stalls, both schools are entertaining, Wem Jubilee band and Wem Community Choir will be providing seasonal music.

"The organ will be playing in the car park by Co-op and the Scouts have their Christmas tree stall.

"Shops will be open and there is a best dressed window competition that will be judged by Mayor of Wem and this year's Snow Queen, who is Scarlett Bowen, age 11.

"Shrewsbury's Town Crier will call out the prize draw winners at 8pm in Wem Town Hall."

High Street will be closed from 5.30pm until 9pm.
