MALPAS' Poppy Appeal organiser says he will stand down this year after volunteering his time for the last six years.

Steve Le Good, an armed forces veteran, has spent the last few years organising the appeal, along with a team of fundraisers.

He has announced that this year will be his last as volunteer organiser and has thanked all those who have supported the cause.

He said: "It is with great sadness and sorrow that this will be my last year as the Poppy Appeal organiser for Malpas and the surrounding areas.

"Because of personal circumstances, I will not be in a position to give my time to this fantastic charity next year.

"It has been an honour to be part of the RBL Poppy Team and I will miss it immensely along with the people who have supported me along the way – Sylvia Brereton and Bobbin Lee who have been collecting for more than 30 years, Rachel Heywood, Sharon Stockton and this year Dave Pegram and Carol Burrow who have joined the team, Malpas Parish Council and of course my ever-supporting wife Andrea.

"Most of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your donations which has successfully raised £30,000 over the last six years.

"I will miss you all and I’m sure you will continue to support the RBL in the future.

"Thank you."
