A MALPAS couple celebrating 60 years of marriage have put down their longevity to 'being happy in life'.

Joan and John Cotton celebrated the Diamond Wedding landmark on Thursday, October 28 with an official card from Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.

Daughter-in-law Julie Cotton says the pair have always worked hard as a couple and have passed on their family values.

She said: "They put down their long marriage to always listening to what the other has to say and working hard together as a couple.

"John had his own electrical business – John Cotton Electrical of Threapwood – for more than 50 years and always had the support of his Joan, who helped him enormously as well as bringing up their three boys Keith Michael and Andrew.

"They are both devoted to their four grandchildren and have passed on their strong family values to them.

"To any younger couples they would say be kind to each other, always listen to what each other to say and be happy with life.

"John and John were married at Hanmer Church and lived at Threapwood until three years ago when they retired to Malpas.

"They were very proud to receive a card from the Queen."
