A FUNDRAISER has been launched for new training kit and equipment by a girls football team in Whitchurch.

The Go Fund Me has been set up for Whitchurch Alport girls under-13s team by one of the club's members, setting a goal of £1,500 to buy new kit and equipment including size-appropriate goals.

It has been set up by Andy Barlow, who says reaching the goal – with more than a third already pledged – may attract new players to the club.

He said: " I am trying to raise funds for a training kit and some new training equipment for our Whitchurch Alport Girls U13 football team.

"We we also need some bigger goals as the ones we have are now unfortunately too small.

"We have tried to find somebody to sponsor the girls and fund the training kit but to no avail.

"Girls/women's football is becoming ever more popular with over 1000 new girls youth and women's teams being registered since the World Cup in June 2019.

"Unfortunately they still don't see the same recognition as the men's and boys teams although over time I think this will change as many more girls are inspired to play.

"Our girls could really do with a training kit and as the dark cold nights are drawing in, I think a tracksuit would be the best option for them.

"Any donations would be gratefully received."
