WHITCHURCH Alport finally broke their home duck with a 2-1 win over Midlands Premier League leaders Lye Town.

Victory ensured the Reds go into Saturday's FA Vase tie against Sleaford Town with confidence while also extending the club's four match unbeaten record.

The game spring into life seven minutes before the break with Alex Hughes lobbing the advancing keeper from 35 yards but Lye levelled a minute before half-time when Ellis Allen’s fine save was pushed away only into the path of Adam Meacham.

Club player of the month Hughes fired the winner midway through the second-half with a class finish from the edge of the area.

Alport enjoyed a slice of fortune when Lye spurned a 77th minute penalty as the Reds held firm for three points.

Manager Luke Goddard said: “You can start to see what we’re all about based on the last few matches.

"We have gained four points against the second and top of the division in back-to-back home games and we are now showing what we are capable of.”

The Reds welcome Sleaford Town to the KMJ Stadium with a 3pm kick-off.

Meanwhile Wem Town celebrated a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Wellington Amateurs in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League with Tom Astley on target.

Elsewhere Prees United tasted a 2-1 defeat at home to Wrockwardine Wood with Chris Owen's late reply coming too late for the hosts after Owen Shedden struck twice.
