A TEAM of walkers from Whixall, Wem and Prees took part in a rural ramble earlier this month to raise funds for Children in Need.

The walk was undertaken by 60 ramblers as part of the BBC's Coutryfile Ramble, which saw them join hundreds of others up and down the country in walking to raise funds for the charity.

The walkers explored areas around Wem, including Soulton Hall, along paths that had previously been unused but were opened up specifically for the ramblers.

Soulton Hall then welcomed the walkers back with cake at its outdoor theatre.

Elinor Clewlow, who organised the walk, said around £300 was raised for Children in Need.

She said: "More than 60 walkers completed the Countryfile Ramble for Children in Need.

"We completed a four-mile ramble, starting at Soulton Hall and going along footpaths, back to the long barrow burial chamber.

"Cake was enjoyed in the outdoor theatre at Soulton Hall and we used a permissive new footpath.

"The event was organised by myself, with my children Will Clewlow, 15 and Amy Clewlow, 12.

"Soulton Hall hosted, provided car parking and use of the theatre and we were joined by Prees Walking group and Wem Walking Group.

"Wem Young Farmers provided and served refreshments and Wem Pudsey was in attendance, and we raised £300."
