MARKET-goers in Wem were treated to a wide variety of local produce at this month's harvest market.

The market, run by Wem Civic Society and Wem Combine Harvesters, was held across Wem, with three locations featuring stalls offering food, goods and entertainment.

Shelagh Richardson, chairman of Wem Civic Society, said the market was a success, with many stall-holders already signing up for the next one.

She said: "There was a wide range of goods and produce was available despite some traders having to drop out due to Covid isolation and related problems.

"As usual Andy Powell was running low on pork pies midway through the morning.

"Steve the Hungry Guy was showing that an intensive and 'meaty' stew could be produced without meat.

"Local publications proved very popular on the Civic Society stall and much interest was shown in the society's new heritage project.

"There was a steady stream of shoppers across the three sites.

"Clearly this was a successful market since some traders are already booking for the next market on St George's Day in 2022."
