ELLESMERE's sole petrol station has promised to be 'back up and running soon' after fuel supplies ran dry on Monday morning.

Last week many forecourts across the UK ran dry of petrol and diesel, owing to a shortage of fuel lorry drivers available for delivery.

In many areas this led to scenes of long queues as petrol station, as panic-buying saw motorists outstrip the supply of fuel.

Mere Motors, in Church Street, Ellesmere, announced it had almost run out of fuel by Monday morning, with manager Julie Edwards unsure of when the next delivery would be.

In a post on social media, she said: "We are more or less out of fuel and don't know when our next tanker will be.

"Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

"I'm sure many of you will have problems getting to work etc, but consider car sharing or treat the situation in the same way as if you were told to isolate.

"Back up and running very soon."

Julie says the limited supplies will remain available for essential workers, such as members of the emergency services, the NHS, vets and teachers.
