IT APPEARED to be business as usual for Whitchurch's petrol stations on Friday, despite fears of panic buying across the country.

On Thursday and Friday, many petrol station forecourts up and down the UK were closed, owing to a lack of fuel deliveries.

This led to many panic-buying petrol and diesel, meaning long queues for motorists at many petrol stations.

But at 2pm on Friday, Whitchurch did not reflect the national picture, with many garages appearing to be no busier than a typical Friday afternoon.

DA Roberts, on the A41 in Grindley Brook appeared the busiest, with a queue forming at times, but on Friday morning they reassured customers that there was no shortage of fuel.

With reports of forecourt closures, Prime Minister Boris Johnson also reiterated that there was no need for concern.

"It's important to restate that there's no shortage of fuel, so people should continue to buy it as usual," he said.

"[For] fuel, as in food, we have a very resilient and robust supply chain.

"So, as I say, people should continue to shop for fuel as usual."
