A MUCH-loved pub in Tilston has received vital long-term protection after being listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV).

An ACV is defined as a building or other land that is important to the social wellbeing or social interests of a community.

The Carden Arms in Tilston's only remaining pub after the Fox and Hounds closed more than a decade ago and reopened in 2016 after being purchased by Didy Morgan.

Supported by Didy, Tilston Parish Council submitted an application to have the pub listed as ACV, which has been successful, ensuring the village would have a pub for years to come.

Parish council chairman, Mike Hearn, said the Carden Arms was an important asset for the village.

He said: "The listing of the Carden Arms as an asset of community value is good news for Tilston; without doubt the Carden plays an essential role on our community.

"It is a welcoming place for residents and visitors to have a drink, a meal and catch up with friends.

"When we have a fantastic resource in our village like the Carden Arms we need to do everything we can to support it and its listing as an ACV is one way, we can show our support."

Meanwhile Didy added that she was delighted to see the pub's importance recognised.

She said: "It was always my aim to save the village pub from closure, so in a moment of madness, and under the pretence to 'add value' to our Hereford meat, the Carden Arms was purchased.

"A village isn't ever as enjoyable without a pub and it's such an important part of the community.

"It's so nice to see the Carden Arms standing proudly over the village green, welcoming guests for liquid refreshments, nourishment, and a super comfy bed for the night."
