WEM Harvest Market will return this month with a wide variety of food and goods on offer.

The 12th event will take place on Saturday, September 25, from 9am until 1pm, with stalls at the town hall, youth club and Jubilee Square.

This will be the first market of the year from Wem Combine Harvesters, with the spring markets of 2020 and 2021 both called off.

Shelagh Richardson, chairman of Wem Civic Society, said there would be plenty on offer.

"A wide range of goods and produce will be available – food, drink, crafts and plants," she said.

"There will be baked goods and meats from Battlefield Farm Shop, Powell's Pork Pies and Vermeulens, plus Steve the Hungry Guy who will be offering vegetarian options.

"For those looking for indulgence after the last few months of stress: chocolate and fudge plus fruit liqueurs, Welsh Cider and Shropshire Wine will be available."

As well as the food offerings, Shelagh says there will be plenty for those who wish to spruce up their garden, or buy something new for the home.

"Those looking to get their garden ready for the autumn will see a wide range of plants on offer," she added.

"Incredible Edible will be on their allotment in Jubilee Square.

"Craft stalls, woodcraft, fabric crafts, greetings cards, scented candles and soaps will be on all sites."

As well as the produce, various community groups will be at the market.

"Information stalls will include Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Wem Area Climate Forum," added Shelagh.

"Wem and District Garden Club will be in the youth club offering produce and advice.

"Wem Civic Society will be in Wem Town Hall with local history publications for sale alongside preserves."

And to keep market-goers amused, there will be musical entertainment as well as some colourful characters wandering the streets.

"A quartet of musicians from Wem Jubilee Band will be moving between the sites to serenade shoppers and traders alike," Shelagh added.

"Shoppers can meet a lady and a gentleman from the Victorian times, who will be on hand to offer directions around the town.

"The mayor of Wem, Councillor Peter Broomhall, and the mayoress, Liz Broomhall, will be visiting the market from 9.30am."
