A PROJECT to photograph Wem's historic buildings will be announced at this month's Civic Society meeting.

The group will meet on Tuesday, September 21, at Wem Town Hall from 7.30pm, with Dr George Nash announcing the plans.

The new project will cover all parts of Wem.

Shelagh Richardson, from the society, said the new project will be open to all photographers.

She said: "Initially the conservation area will be recorded; this will include listed buildings and all other features of interest.

"A working title for this first part of the project is 'Inside the Ramparts'.

"This will be an opportunity for enthusiastic photographers to sign up."

Society members will also hear tales of success and failure from the region's industrial past at this month's meeting, with John Pinfold speaking.

John will tell the story of Harris Barges, the Chester and Liverpool Lighterage and Warehousing Company and Whitchurch Warehousing and the story of a failed enterprise on the Ellesmere Canal.

The talk is free to members of the society; non-members can attend for £2.50.
