A WEM woman has caught on camera the moment a small but fearsome mink paid her a visit.

Lorna Tommy captured footage of an American mink hiding in her garden, after hearing it yelling at her cat late on Tuesday night.

American minks are fairly common in the UK, after being introduced in the 1920s, but they typically stick close to watercourses.

Despite their cute appearance, they are highly territorial and efficient predators, with water vole being a popular dish.

Lorna says at first her husband mistook the animal for a rat.

She said: "We heard it before we saw it as one of our cats was trying to get at it and it was screaming.

"Husband thought it was a big rat but on seeing it I could tell it had rounded ears and paws.

"I looked on YouTube to see what noise a mink makes and it matched."

Lorna said by Wednesday morning the creature had moved on, but warned those with fish and small pets to keep on the lookout for the fearsome creature.
