AN ELLESMERE swimming group that has provided the technical support for a major fundraising event over the weekend has thanked all those who helped.
Swimfinity supported the League of Friends (Lof) to the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt (RJAH) Orthopaedic Hospital's Mere Mile, which took place on Bank Holiday Monday.
With more than £12,000 raised by Tuesday – with more to come in sponsorship money from competitors – organisers at the company were delighted with how it went.
A spokesman said: "Today was amazing but we couldn’t do it without the incredible army of volunteers who travelled from far and wide to help make it happen.
"(This includes) the LoF, Tim Hunter, the kayakers and stand up paddles crew, the boat crews, lifeguards and medics, the Carnival committee and all the event sponsors.
"Most of all, the swimmers as without you there is no event, and no fundraising.
"That’s phenomenal, thank you all so much."
Organisers of the Mere Mile are hoping that the figure will move closer towards £20,000 with further additions to the Just Giving site.
