THOSE wishing to donate clothing and other supplies to incoming refugees from Afghanistan can now do so in Ellesmere.

With the Taliban's takeover of the country, Shropshire will welcome a number of refugees in line with the UK Government's resettlement scheme.

Although housing plans have not yet been formulated, donations of clothing are being accepted.

Ellesmere Town Hall has been established as a donation station, and council clerk Jo Butterworth confirmed that a 'large number' of donations had already been received.

She said: "I can now confirm that council have set Ellesmere Town Hall up as a donation station on behalf of Shropshire Supports Refugees.

"We set this up Wednesday afternoon and have already received a large number of donations on Thursday morning."

The donation station will be open for donations from Monday to Friday, 9am until 1pm.

Alternative drop-offs can be arranged by appointment by calling call Vanessa on 01691 622188.
