A WELSHAMPTON festival celebrating Zydeco and Cajun music has been labelled a great success by event organisers.

The North Shropshire Cajun and Zydeco Big Weekend took place over the weekend of August 13 and saw musicians travel from around the UK to Welshampton to enjoy the sounds of the American south.

It didn't take place last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Festivalgoers were able to enjoy a dozen musical groups, as well as Jamaican cuisine.

A spokesperson for the festival thanked all those who attended.

They said: "A huge thank you to all those who came along and helped make this year's festival a success.

"We appreciate some couldn't make it for various reasons and we hope to see them next time too.

"Also massive thank you to all the volunteers who help make this festival work; without you it would be impossible.

"The festival committee will be meeting in the coming weeks for a debrief; in the meantime we're all taking a well-deserved rest and are looking forward to a few long sleeps.

"Thanks again."
