THE Whitchurch arm of the Llangollen Canal has received some much-needed TLC thanks to a group of green-fingered volunteers.

Earlier in 2021, a team of people, including members of a local landscaping and tool-hire firm, volunteered their time to repave the canal towpath, after weeks of rain had left it muddy and impassable.

Now work has continued to beautify other areas near the canal, including a stretch of grass.

Paul Millington, who helped lead the last effort once again spearheaded the work.

He said: "During the growing season the banks along the canal arm looked very unkempt, and with the cooperation of David Smith and Bob Sumner, from the the Waterway Trust a group of volunteers assisted them in strimming and tidying the towpath.

"Because of the number of strimmers at our disposal, the team were able to work through to the picnic tables and car park.

"As usual a great job well done."

Paul also thanked all those who helped with the latest work and added: "A huge thank you to Lyndsey for providing refreshments and allowing us to divert the foot traffic."

Meanwhile Sheila Mummert, who helped out with the work, said: "It was super fun and a great workout.

"Thank you Lyndsey for a wonderful cuppa tea and biccie."
