AN EXCITING opportunity is on the way for youngsters as a mermaid is making her way to Ellesmere.

During the summer holidays two special events are taking place when Jenny Hall aka Mermaid Seren, will be meeting and swimming with some of the youngsters.

Her visit continues the Meremaids and Meremen community art display organised by library assistant Sally Poynton, which has seen Ellesmere town centre inundated with scores of brightly-decorated aquatic figures.

Now, Sally has arranged for Jenny, from nearby Gobowen, to bring the underwater world to life.

Jenny said: "I love the ocean and everything within it.

"I have always been a water baby and I find myself most comforted when I’m in or under the water.”

Wearing a colourful aquatic fin-tail costume, Jenny, is a member of the Performance Mermaids group that gives displays at aquariums and water centres and special events around the country.

Jeni is a qualified free diver, and a volunteer marine life medic with the British Divers Marine Life Rescue group. She has studied marine zoology and has competed in the finals of the Miss Mermaid UK competition.

With her mermaid sisters, she has raised money for Sea Shepherd UK, an international marine wildlife conservation group.

Her visit to Ellesmere library is being sponsored by the Friends of Our Space as part of the library’s summer reading challenge programme. She will be talking to children about her work, water safety and the need to protect marine wildlife from the increasing threat of pollution, climate change and global warming.

The ‘meet the mermaid’ session takes place between 2pm and 3.30 pm on Saturday. Tickets, (£2) are available from the library or online at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/meet-mermaid-seren-and-become-a-wild-world-hero-tickets-161099082693
