POLICE in Ellesmere will soon have a new base in the town.

At Ellesmere Town Council's July meeting, councillors were updated on plans to hand an office in the town hall over to the Ellesmere Safer Neighbourhoods Team to use as a permanent base.

Council clerk Jo Butterworth explained the arrangement, saying the base would be occupied either by a PC or a PCSO.

She said: "Were offering a small office for a community policing post.

"Inspector Claire Greenaway has been down and she is excited about this, she wants to use Ellesmere Town Hall as the police station.

"Whenever someone is on duty, either a PC or PCSO they will use the building as a base."

Councillor Tim Hunter was supportive of the decision.

He said: "It's a good move for Ellesmere and it will make a hell of a lot of difference."

Meanwhile, PC Paul Crump attended the meeting to provide an update on the current crime situation in Ellesmere.

In the last month he said there were a total of six reported crimes.

"Of these there were three assaults to known parties, one criminal damage, one hate crime and one public order offence of foul language," he added.

"We have ongoing investigations in five out of the six."
