THE committee behind Wem's successful Christmas Lights nights will be meeting this month to make plans for 2021's event.

The Wem Christmas Lights and Festival Committee is meeting on Tuesday, July 27 to elect new officers and a new committee before it begins planning for the next extravaganza, as part of its annual general meeting (AGM).

Previous Christmas Lights nights in recent years have seen a parade of camels through the town, to represent the Three Wise Men, while the last event in 2019 – with 2020 cancelled because of Covid-19 – saw local celebrity Greg Davies perform the honours.

The meeting will begin at 7.15pm at Wem Conservative Club in Noble Street.

Following the AGM, the new committee and officers will meet, with Councillor Kerry Edge acting as Wem Town Council's official representative.

In the agenda, it has been suggested that the camels could make a popular return while decisions over how to utilise more space could also be made.
