MORE THAN 175,000 people in Shropshire have received their first and second Covid-19 vaccination doses as of July 21, NHS figures show.

NHS data shows 176,295 people had received both jabs by June 21 and of those to have received both jabs, 167,682 were aged 30 and over.

It means 8613 people aged between 16 to 29 have received both doses.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Shropshire.

Meanwhile the number of recorded coronavirus cases in Shropshire increased by 55 as of June 21, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 15,431 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday, June 21 in Shropshire, up from 15,376 the same time on Friday.

The rate of infection in Shropshire now stands at 4,775 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 7,186.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 29,614 over the period, to 4,640,507.

Shropshire's cases were among the 443,991 recorded across the West Midlands, a figure which rose by 2,035 over the period.

Covid vaccinations are also to be made compulsory for care home staff in England.

Staff will be given 16 weeks to get fully vaccinated from the time new legislation is set to take effect in October.

NHS figures show in Shropshire, 336 out of 3,830 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had not received a first dose by June 13, nine per cent of all those eligible for the vaccine.

That proportion has fallen slightly from April 11, shortly after plans for mandatory vaccinations first emerged, when 11 per cent were unvaccinated.

Across the country, the uptake for first doses varies by region with London having the highest proportion of unvaccinated staff – 23 per cent.

By contrast, 14 per cent of care home staff in the South West and the North East and Yorkshire have not had the first jab.

In the Midlands, that figure is 16 per cent and nationally, the proportion unvaccinated is 16 per cent.

Meanwhile all 18 to 39-year olds across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are now able to go to a walk-in Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine clinic.

Walk-in Pfizer clinics for the 18-39 years olds are being held at the Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital from Tuesday, June 22 to Sunday, June 27, Wednesday, June 30, Thursday, July 1 to Sunday, July 11, from 8am to 5.30pm for first doses only.

Currently only the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine is being offered at these walk-in clinics.

No appointment is needed, people can simply turn up to have their jab.
