A NEW food store is set to open its doors in Blacon this month.

Discount retail chain Heron Foods will welcome shoppers from 8am on Thursday, May 27.

The new store, which has been built on the site of the former library on Western Avenue, has created 16 new jobs in both full and part-time roles.

On opening day, the store will be offering a scratchcard-style giveaway to the first 250 customers with top prizes worth £50 to be found.

Other prizes include £5 vouchers, product vouchers, and £1 off £10 spend coupons.

Visitors to the company’s Facebook page will have the opportunity to choose their favourite charity, which will be given £250 as a thank you from Heron Foods to mark the launch of the new store.

Store manager Ben Harvey, who has worked at Heron Foods for more than 20 years, said: "We’re thrilled to be opening a new store in Blacon and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors.

"I’d personally like to thank colleagues for their efforts in getting the new store ready, as well as our new neighbours who have already shown support.

"As an essential retailer within the community, we’ll be bringing local people our huge everyday grocery range at the lowest possible prices."

Heron Foods in Blacon will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am until 8pm, and on Sunday from 10am until 4 pm.
