AN episode filmed in Chester for the latest series of a popular television game show hits our screens this weekend.

The city will take centre stage during the next installment of ITV's hit Saturday night offering 'In for a Penny'.

Back in September last year, host Stephen Mulhern and his crew were spotted on Eastgate Street as they spent time filming in Chester.

That episode, the fourth of the new series, airs on Saturday (May 8) at 7pm.

Previewing the episode, ITV said: "Stephen Mulhern continues the third series of the hit game show which sees him travelling the country with his unique brand of games, giving away cash prizes.

"Stephen’s next port of call is Chester, where he challenges more unsuspecting members of the public to take on his silly and often bonkers games for a chance to win anything from the price of their petrol to a cool £1,000 in the final game of the show."

The ITV show, now in its third series, sees Mulhern visit cities and towns across the UK to find people to complete a variety of challenges.

At the end of each episode, members of the public are invited to take part in the segment 'In for a Penny, In for a Grand', but they can only be ‘in’ if they have a penny on them.

The third series began filming at the beginning of August last year with social distancing guidelines being followed.

The pop-up game show was based on the original 'Ant ‘n’ Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' feature and it was first broadcast in 2019.
