THE council has published its last weekly briefing on coronavirus as Wrexham transitions from responding to the pandemic to recovery.

Virus levels remain low in the county and life is starting to feel a little more ‘normal’ for most people.

However, there has a slight increase in coronavirus cases in Wrexham, with 22.1 cases per 100k population, compared to 11.8 last week.

Wrexham now has the third worst rate of coronavirus in Wales compared to tenth last week.

The briefing note says: "The figures are still extremely low, but it’s a reminder that things can turn bad…very quickly.

"So sticking to the basics – social distancing, fresh air, wearing a mask and washing our hands – is more important than ever, and will help us keep the figures down.

"And with more of us being vaccinated every day, we can hopefully stay on track for a good summer.

"Enjoy the bank holiday, but remember the basics – hands, face, space, fresh air.

Key messages:

• Infection rates have risen slightly since last week, but only in a few parts of Wrexham.

• Let’s do all we can to keep levels low so as not to endure a third wave.

Cases permitting, this will be the last of Wrexham Council's weekly briefing notes.

If cases remain low there will be less information to share about the disease itself, but more about how the council and people of Wrexham are transitioning from a response to the pandemic to a recovery from it. From May 14, the authority will be publishing a fortnightly briefing note on the programme of recovery.
