A POPULAR destination outside Whitchurch has made changes to a public event in order to welcome more people.

Combermere Abbey has announced that its grounds will be reopened to the public from Wednesday, April 14 for the popular Bluebell walks, which will now be held over a five-week period.

The walk is normally held one day a year but plans are now in place for it to be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from April 14 until May 23, while demand could lead to an extension.

Abbey owner Sarah Callander Becket said: “I am so excited to welcome local people from Cheshire and north Shropshire back to Combermere Abbey this year.

"What a wonderful escape from the past 12 months to come and enjoy the blossoms and bluebells that are just magical this time of year.

"We are encouraging only local people to travel to Combermere in line with restrictions and government guidance, but look forward to welcoming people from all over the UK when Abbey tours begin later this year.”

Dogs are welcome at no charge and appropriate footwear is required.

Tickets for morning (10am-midday) and afternoon (2-4pm) walks will be now reserved online and released two weeks prior to each event.

The first collection of tickets are now live at https://combermereabbey.co.uk/?whats_on=bluebell-walk
