Amazon Prime has two noteworthy original films available for free for its members right now, one hugely acclaimed, one a little less so.

Rosamund Pike recently picked up a Golden Globe Award for her role in the US black comedy, I Care a Lot, streaming on Prime. She plays Marla, a scam artist specialising in being granted guardianship status for older people unable to look after themselves.

She then sells off their homes and belongings and steals their savings before moving onto her next victim. Thoroughly heartless, she gets in over her head when one of her victims turns out to have ties to a crime lord who doesn’t take kindly to her meddling.

Pike has history at playing unsympathetic characters with her fantastic turn in Gone Girl and she is on top form here. If you fancy a slice of something dark and cynically entertaining, this is for you.

Amazon’s other big release is Eddie Murphy’s 30-years-later sequel, Coming 2 America. In the original, he played Prince Akeem, newly-arrived in the US to find a bride, and here he’s back to find the son he never knew he had.

It’s a serviceable sequel that mostly just acts as a reminder of the much better original, but if you like to watch Eddie Murphy doing double takes, you’re in for a treat.

Netflix’s currently most talked about series is doubtless, Behind Her Eyes, a psychological drama about a young woman who meets a handsome stranger in a bar, then discovers he’s her new boss, then unbeknown to him gets friendly with his strange wife, then starts having bizarre dreams.

It’s either a work of genius heralding a whole new acting and directing style, or a trashy slice of hammy fun, it’s probably both. By the time you watch the very last twist of many, you may feel like re-evaluating your life, you can thank me later.
