FRUSTRATED residents have hit out at the ‘blatant disregard’ of Covidiots who flout lockdown rules.

Angela Williams said she was going for a walk to her local park in Connah’s Quay over the weekend, when she said the roads were ‘littered with vehicles’ as people from as far as England travelled to a local beauty spot.

The Leader has previously reported that people are disregarding the Welsh Government’s regulations and are driving to Wepre Park, parking on the main roads which is causing issues for traffic.

Over the weekend, Angela told the Leader she saw over 50 cars parked up and there were ‘thousands’ of people in the park.

She said: “It was horrendous. On Saturday they were all in big crowds. There were cars parked outside because the car park isn’t open and that was causing problems.

“They were just parking everywhere. In the climate we are all in, we are staying at home as we are supposed to and then when we did go to our local park, which is in walking distance, it was inundated with people.

“I was absolutely livid, it’s disgusting how they get away with it. I used to be in the police so I know they’ve got a lot to do anyway but someone needs to control this, there needs to be some kind of measure in place.

“It ruined our walk. I never thought I’d have to wear a mask in an open space. I’ve always used the park. We only go for a walk on a weekend and it was a beautiful day.

“Surely these people have somewhere on their own doorstep they can go to and stop putting the residents of Connah’s Quay at risk.”

Earlier this week, cones were spotted outside the park in a bid to prevent cars parking.

Angela added: “Why do they all pile out and drive somewhere? It’s too dangerous at the moment,

“Kids are going on the park, everyone has touched it, there’s cross examination. I’ve never seen anything like it.

“We’ve had a year to get used to it. You can’t use to excuse of different rules in England and Wales because the rules are don’t mix, it’s that simple.

“I just don’t understand the mentality. A bit of the walk is blocked off because they are doing groundwork and people were moving the gate to walk through.

“In the end we cut our walk short, it was mayhem. My husband has COPD and we only go out on a Saturday for some fresh air but it’s like we can’t even go to a walk in our local park now.

“People are travelling from as far as Southport because they claim there’s nowhere by them. It’s absolutely horrendous.”

Last month, the North Flintshire policing team took to social media saying that they would be actively patrolling the area for those flouting the current guidance from Welsh Government when it comes to exercising under alert level four restrictions.

At present, the Welsh Government website states that your exercise must start and finish from your home address, or the home of the members in your support bubble. There are no limits on the distance you can travel during exercise, though the nearer you stay to your home, the better.

However, despite this being official guidance since December, people still don’t appear to be taking the message on board.

On Saturday, a spokesman for the North Flintshire team said: “We are getting numerous reports of people travelling from outside the area on none-essential journeys breaching COVID regulations.

“We have been left with no choice but to report in excess of ten different households for these breaches. Wepre Park and Talacre Beach in particular have been bad today.

“Please help us, we don't want to issue any fines for this and the country is moving in the right direction towards the easing of restrictions but we aren't there yet.

“Ambulances are queued up outside YGC [Ysbyty Glan Clwyd] with patients, they are busy enough! Essential journey only or journeys within the regulations please!

“We will continue to check.”
