POLICE are appealing for information after a man died in Wem when his car struck trees and landed in water.

The man, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident, which happened in the early hours of Saturday morning between Wem and Prees.

West Mercia Police have issued an appeal for information and witnesses, as they try to establish why the driver struck trees and ended in water after leaving the road.

A spokesman said: "We’re appealing for witnesses after a man died in a collision in Wem.

"The collision happened around 1.30am on Saturday, February 27 on the B5065.

"For reasons yet to be established, a vehicle left the road and struck a number of trees before becoming partially submerged in a small body of water.

"The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Formal identification has yet to take place however his next of kin has been informed.

"Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses.
