MEMBERS of Shropshire Fire and Rescue were kept busy on Saturday, with the day being bookended by chimney fires in Whitchurch and Wem.

The first was reported in Ash Road in Whitchurch on Saturday, February 13 at around 6.30am.

One crew was mobilised from Whitchurch to tackle the fire, which involved a log burner.

The crew used chimney rods, small gear and thermal image camera to extinguish the fire before leaving around an hour later.

And at around 8pm, firefighters from Wem received a callout to chimney fire in the village of Tilley.

One crew was dispatched to tackle the fire, also involving a log burner, tackling the blaze with chimney rods, a stirrup pump and a thermal imaging camera.

The crew left the scene more than an hour later at 9.30pm.
